Following an international competition, the celebrated Swiss architecture firm of Herzog & de Meuron, working with TFP Farrells and Ove Arup, was selected to design the M+ [top image]. Scheduled for completion in 2018, the approximately 60,000 square-metre scheme will create an iconic presence for M+, and Hong Kong, on the museum’s site overlooking Victoria Harbour. A strikingly slim, semi-transparent vertical plane, housing education facilities, a public restaurant and museum offices, will rise atop an impressive horizontal slab offering a diversity of well-considered gallery spaces.

Speaker Aric Chen is the Curator of Design and Architecture at M+ museum for visual culture being built in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District [bottom image via scmp.com] M+ will be Hong Kong’s new museum for visual culture, encompassing 20th and 21st century art, design, architecture and the moving image from Hong Kong, China, Asia and beyond.
